Alexandra McInnis is a wine professional and writer based in New York City, with a curiosity for how wine can help explain the world beyond the glass. Her passion for the European Alps led her to co-found the Alpine Wine Society, a newsletter dedicated to wine, food, and culture from the high peaks.
Since its launch, the Alpine Wine Society has covered stories about indigenous grapes such as Heida, Petite Arvine, and Chasselas for a dedicated readership. As part of her Alpine work, Alexandra curates private tastings in the New York region for both those familiar with Alpine wines and those discovering them for the first time. She maintains strong relationships with winemakers and estates in France and Switzerland.
As a writer for publications including the New Wine Review and Everyday Drinking, she has covered topics ranging from the secretive world of grower Champagne, to the (literal) upper echelons of Northern Piedmont, to breathtaking white Burgundy. Her writing is unique among other wine critics for her ability to blend technical aspects of wine storytelling with trending and often humorous cultural observations.
In addition to her writing career, Alexandra leads supply chain relationships for NYC-based Crush Wine Co, one of the premiere wine retailers in the U.S., which was at the forefront of the Burgundy revolution and remains a tastemaker in the realms of Burgundy, Piedmont, Northern Rhone and Champagne.
Alexandra received her undergraduate degree in Political Science and French from the University of Chicago. She is certified WSET Level II with distinction and fluent in French.
